Cheesecake
In a hurry to grab a bite before the ghost tour of the Old City of Charleston Jail, I wanted to try Fast and French, or Gaulart & Maliclet, as it was originally named. In 1984. artists Gwylene Gallimard & Jean-Marie Mauclet aimed to use the cafe as a tool to build community through food. The warm inviting atmoshere outside the resto is enough to entice you in–typical French style, sidewalk tables, big flags waving in the breeze sporting the colors of France, and lots to see in people watching mode. Vin rouge, sil vous plais! The delicious pate and charcuterie plate was a plentiful portion, with fantastic bread. The shared tables, the open kitchen, the focus on simple, fresh soups and daily specials elicit homespun charm. But the dessert! Cheesecake with strawberry coulis, draped over the luscious creamy, tangy cheesecake. Oohh la la! Superb!
