Halibut
Stepping into Merci feels like visiting a cozy, chic European cafe–laughter, wine glasses clinking, and delicious food smells. My praises begin with Chef Michael Zentner’s creative approach to the classics, a la southern twist, as he and wife Courtney, creative director, host several pop-ups: a bread baking venture during the pandemic, and Drifter, an exclusive event/catering arm. Then, Petit Merci, a charmingly exclusive mini-mart of fresh baked breads and bakery items, prepared meals, and specialty culinary picks. Finally, the pièce de résistance, Merci, the restaurant. Expectations ran high. The Halibut, with lobster mushrooms, clam Velouté, and pink eyed peas, served poached, surprises in each bite, a chef’s kiss! The heirloom tomato salad, tangy freshness, the cabbage caesar salad so full of flavor and crunchy goodness. I was shocked at the complex flavors. Superb French wine list! Reservations suggested.
