I have been wanting to try Nico at Shem Creek for the seafood, oysters in particular, as Nico Romo, chef/owner is known for his in-depth knowledge of the coastal area’s oysters. First, the service is just about impeccable, even outside at the bar. Second, the cuisine is excellent, a great selection of French and other wines and a wide variety of menu items. I had champagne and oysters to start, divinely salty and of course, fresh. Next, steak frites for an entree. The pièce de résistance, however, was the dessert, a mini baked Alaska which is set on fire, just as it is served. I was clapping in delight! So perfect, as the cold ice cream inside merges with the warm crisp meringue outside. The ambience is neighborhood friendly, yet sophisticated as the menu suggests, with its French-centric yet unique fare.
