Talk about a pilgrimage! Stuck out there on I-40 in the middle of nowhere, just about a mile east of  THAT corner in Winslow, Arizona, you’ll find where the locals go. Brown Mug Cafe lives in a low-slung building with a for real, non-retro neon sign on the road out of town. Stroll through the door and you feel like you’ve walked into the world’s best Mexican coffee shop. A handful of booths, a friendly counter, a legit pay phone in the back. I went simple with the tamales. They had a creamy gentle meat filling and the sauce was lip-smacking beyond flavorful. The refrieds knocked it out of the park and the rice ball was adhered with butter or oil? Sooo good. The sopapillas and honey that came with it were amazing! Come here. Take it easy. You won’t be sorry.
