If it wasn’t for the Mexican restaurant next door we frequent, I would have no idea this place existed. I’m so glad we checked out Ai Sushi & Teriyaki. The restaurant is fairly small, but clean and beautifully decorated with an homage to Totoro, the popular Japanese character. The staff were all so welcoming, friendly and genuine. At some points however I felt like I needed a Rosetta Stone, although I suppose that lent an air of authenticity to the place. We order many of the same items at all Japanese establishments and noticed immediately that this was a standout. Particularly their shrimp tempura and cream cheese wontons. Among the finest we’ve had. We will be back soon for sure as it now ranks as a favorite Japanese/Sushi style restaurant in the Poway area.
