Pizza and Salad
I don’t usually eat lunch at pizza joints, but when in Gainesville, go to Satchel’s. Owned by world traveler and artist Steve Raye, it is decorated with music CD’s and art, plus the hollowed-out Scooby Doo Van he used to travel in (now a table for four). Eighties music, vintage toy store, tile mosaics and a greenhouse – what more can you ask for in a hippy vibe pizza place but, excellent pizza? We pigged out on the Satchel’s salad for two first, with fresh greens, tomatoes, almonds, sunflower seeds, Romano cheese and house-made dressing. But then, the pizza! Soft dough but not thick, fresh mushrooms (not pictured), keeping it simple. There are lots of toppings to choose from, trust me! Wine and beer, of course and unusual soda choices. A family eatery with calzones, pan pizza, great desserts, plus live bands during the week. Do not miss this eatery!
