Kalua Pork
After a weeklong heat wave when temperatures in Sacramento reached 112, the weather broke and four of us enjoyed a late dinner at Kau Kau after seeing a play at the B Street Theater. Kau Kau, a new Hawaiian restaurant, is a hidden gem in East Sacramento. Our group shared multiple dishes, all delicious, but our favorite was the Kalua Pork: salty, smoky, silky, succulent and savory. Truly lip-smacking! Accompanying the pork was an exceptional macaroni salad, toothsome due to the al dente noodles. We were welcomed like old friends by the cheerful staff who provided attentive service and generous wine pours. They don’t take reservations, but there’s a cozy bar for a glass of wine or a beer before being seated. Be ready for a Hawaiian food adventure. Aloha!
