Plenty of restaurants have an iconic dish. Not as many have an iconic movie filmed on location there. Hello Walker Bros., the Wilmette “original” location, just a few stops from Chicago. Robert Redford directed Timothy Hutton and Dinah Manoff  here in the Oscar-winning Ordinary People, as two emotionally troubled teens. Their post-mental hospital meeting at Walker Bros. foreshadowed the tragic events to later unfold in this deeply wrenching story. But wait, the apple pancake! Deep dish. Served bubbling warm, oozing with apples and cinnamon and rich eggy-custardy innards. Ask to have it served as dessert, because the thick menu full of breakfast delights should be included on any good tour of the Windy City, after you visit The Bean.
