I have the Juniper cookbook with the recipe for this Warm Date Cake. The cookbook acknowledges the simple name is misleading and often ends up becoming the highlight of a meal. This is true on both counts. When I brought it home, I heated it for 45 seconds, which is about the same amount of time it lasted on my plate. It is definitely not like the date nut cake that comes in a can that I remember from my childhood. Do you feel like you are eating dates? Absolutely not! Do you feel like you are eating warm cake lightened by the whipped cream with the toffee sauce melting into the cake and the crunch of the pecans? Yep! Each bite was better than the one before. I have been told by a good source that you can take half of the serving, cut it into cubes, freeze it, and mix it into ice cream. I bet it is delicious. Maybe next time I should get two pieces.
