Sometimes when you’re visiting a town, you walk into a place, look at all the smiling faces, and you just know you have arrived. That’s how I felt when I found Orphans on a glorious, sunny weekday morning in Sacramento. And one look at their overflowing breakfast menu and I knew I’d need a bigger boat! I opted for the Dragon Potatoes, and yes, the spuds were there, swimming in the most amazing tomatillo sauce. But that was just the dish’s foundation. Look at those burnt-end carnitas! The black beans, the slivers of jalapeno, the sprinkling of fresh cilantro. Even the tortillas were perfect! I am coming back and bringing everyone I know.
