Beet ravioli
Sitting quietly up a short flight of steps in the polished Hannibal Square neighborhood, VINIA Wine & Kitchen is an antidote to Orlando’s busy hotels and attractions. Here, a sophisticated couple, Fabio and Paula — he Italian, she Brazilian — run an intimate wine bar with warm hues and distinctive back-lighting. The wines are those prize bottles absent from supermarkets, produced by boutique vineyards and paired expertly; just ask. The food isn’t marketed as the reason to visit, yet it is destination-worthy. Most items are Mediterranean — Italian, French, Spanish and Portuguese. The ravioli “fatti a mano” (handmade) changes periodically, so hurry to get the version pictured here. The pasta itself is a vibrant magenta thanks to beet juice. Fabio stuffs the pasta with creamy mild mascarpone cheese, then, for spring, serves it atop an artichoke sauce. Try it on a Thursday and you’ll hear live music too.
