Chilaquiles
Ocoee is a nondescript suburb of Orlando and Disney World, so it’s delightful to find a bold sign in vibrant colors beckoning drivers-by to La Fonda de Ocoee, a small, simple Mexican restaurant where the food packs a wowzer of flavor. The eager owner will go out of his way to make you comfortable, even re-arranging tables at your request, smiling widely as he does. The menu is huge, yet quality seems to pervade. For the chilaquiles, pictured, tortilla chips are cooked in a rich housemade red sauce. Choose chicken or steak chunks with yours. You’ll find them buried under creamy melted Mexican cheeses, onions and sour cream. Tender rice and gentle refried beans come standard. Add on a few dashes of hot sauce to elevate the spice level. The cooks plate the traditional Mexican breakfast on a colorful oversized platter of colors that match your meal.
