Any time I find myself in DC, a Ben’s visit is mandatory and if possible, I hit the original on U Street. Never changes, never grows old. I go for the half smoke and fries with chili, and the two dishes work as one. The zippy bite to the half smoke separates it from every other hot dog I’ve ever tasted. I can’t even imagine it without the chili and onions. And the fries just blend into the whole flavor experience.  Sit at the counter and savor your meal with a rich vanilla shake. Obama ate here and for a darned good reason. Here’s to old times and good times.
